2nd WOODEND SCOUT GROUP - PREPARE FOR ADVENTURE, PREPARE FOR LIFE
                2nd WOODEND SCOUT GROUP
2nd Woodend Group Badge2nd Woodend is one of a growing number of new scout groups starting up across Victoria to cater for the 25% growth in the last 5 years.

We're a family-focused Scout Group with a program full of fun, friendship, new skills and adventure. In scouting girls and boys get to try new things and become independent - through outdoor adventure, cooking their own meals, working in small teams, learning to care for themselves, the environment, and those in their team.

Through the scout program and award scheme, we encourage girls and boys to develop leadership, resilience, independence and learn important life skills. This is achieved through age-appropriate outdoor activities and learning together in small and increasingly self-directed teams. And of course have lots of fun and adventures with their friends along the way!

2nd Woodend Scouts
Our scouts have hiked along the Great Ocean Walk; swam, rafted, canoed and sailed at Lake Eppalock; rock-climbed in the Grampians; caved at Mt. Eccles; canoed down the Glenelg River; helped out at Landcare; learnt First Aid, flown in a light aircraft and were even part of a successful Guiness Book of Records piggy-back race!

Our Cub Scouts have been on Medieval and Bushranger camps, ridden on Puffing Billy, abseiled, slept overnight at the Bendigo Discovery Centre and gone down a mine, got wet at the CFA, hiked up Mount Macedon, They've had lots of fun at Halloween, the Disco Night, and helped out at Clean Up Australia and Landcare!

So what’s the appeal of today’s scouting? It’s the opportunity for boys and girls to have active fun outdoors – away from computer games and an overload of technology! Scouting today offers a wide range of age-appropriate adventurous activities children may not be able to do elsewhere – including Abseiling, Canoeing, Caving, Scuba-diving, Flying, Water-skiing, Rock Climbing and Mountain Biking. And traditional scout activities aren’t forgotten! Hiking, camping, bush construction, first aid, community service, survival skills and doing a “good turn” for others in need are still a feature of our programs.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Scouting!

Scouting is a worldwide movement that has shaped the development of youth and adults for over 100 years. Scouts are in every part of our community, and Scouting is the biggest and most successful youth organisation in Australia.  More than 20,000 boys, girls, and adults in Victoria from wide cultural or religious background, including those with an intellectual or physical disability, enjoy a virtually unlimited range of activities.

By enrolling your child in Scouting you are giving them the opportunity for a fun educational experience above and beyond what the school system offers. In this respect Scouting is often referred to as non-formal education.

Scouting, which has been in existence since 1907, and in Australia since 1908, has the aim of developing young people physically, intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and socially. Children are accepted into Scouting from 6 years of age, and may continue through the different sections until they are young adults at age 26.

Scouting emphasises nature, adventure, citizenship, leadership - and of course having fun.

2ND Woodend Scout GroupFrom the Cub Section onwards, young people are gradually given more opportunity to work in small autonomous (but supervised) groups in order to develop leadership skills.

Our Leaders are volunteers from the community, often the parents of children in scouting, who have an interest in developing young people's potential. All potential Leaders are given full police and referee checks, must obtain a Working With Children Check Card (in Victoria) then supervised and trained fully before they are able to work with young people on their own. Leaders receive no financial reward for the work they do in the Group.

We have adopted a ‘try before you buy’ policy which encourages families to attend weekly group activities for 3 weeks before having to make a financial commitment or obtain a uniform.

Scouting isn't just somewhere else to drop the kids. It's a chance to grow up with them and that's a great experience for both of you. Your involvement with our group can be as flexible as you wish. The only thing we do ask is that you show your interest and encouragement and give your time to participate with your child whenever you can.

So come along and give us a try! See our contacts page on this website to start the fun!
