2nd Woodend Scout Group is a family-friendly group delivering the scouting program through outdoor activities that promote and encourage friends, fun and adventure!
For all age-groups we help develop independence, resilience, self-sufficiency, decision-making and leadership. And of course all those life skills that you would expect from scouting - cooking over a campfire, pitching tents, first aid, constructing gadgets with poles, ropes and knots.
But although we have a serious purpose, our cubs, scouts and venturers "learn through doing" - fun games, exciting activities, camping, hiking and canoeing. And of course helping our community and others.
Today scouting offers many more activities than just camping and bushwalking. Canoeing, Abseiling, Caving, Sailing, Scuba-diving, Water-skiing, Rafting, Rock-climbing and Flying are just some of the many activities available through scouting.
We meet on these nights:
- Cubs: Mondays 6.00 - 7.30pm
- Scouts: Mondays 7.00 - 9.00pm
- Venturers: Thursdays 7.00 - 9.00pm
Here's are some of our cubs, scouts and venturers having lots of fun:
Over the Easter school holidays 14 scouts and 9 venturers from 2nd Woodend paddled for 3 days down the beautiful Glenelg River. Camping out at night beside the river we all enjoyed the serenity and peacefulness of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Big Day Scout! Wall art decorated the laneways of Melbourne as teams of scouts raced around the city to find clues sent to smart phone and correct answers returned by photo! The 2nd Woodend Venturers came first and each won a Snowgum Backpack plus a wireless stereo speaker for their unit.
Every year, 2nd Woodend Scouts join 1,500 other scouts at Gilweroo - the biggest fun and adventure camp of the year. One of the most popular is sumo wrestling - lots of muddy fun!
2nd Woodend Cubs learn about bike safety while having lots of fun riding the trails of Wombat forest under the expert guidance of Russell, owner of Woodend Cycles and founder of the classic "Wombat 100" MTB event.
